Call IRS from abroad

The IRS has a dedicated line for taxpayers living abroad, and it is not toll-free, so it works from any country. Its 800 numbers are for callers inside the US, though Kitaphone can dial them too.

Kitaphone is not affiliated with IRS. The dialer is set to IRS's main international line.

Questions about calling IRS

Which IRS number works from abroad?
+1 267-941-1000 (international taxpayers). It is an ordinary US number, so unlike IRS's 800 lines it can be reached from any country.
Can I call IRS's 800 numbers from outside the US?
Not from a foreign phone: toll-free numbers only accept calls from inside the US. Kitaphone places the call from the US network, so the 800 numbers above connect from your browser at the ordinary US rate.
What does a call to IRS cost?
$0.02 per minute from prepaid credit, billed in whole minutes. Hold time counts, so a 30-minute wait costs $0.60. There is no subscription.
Is Kitaphone part of IRS?
No. Kitaphone is an independent calling service. The numbers on this page are IRS's own, copied from IRS's website, which is where to check them if anything here looks wrong.
